Rockpool is a luxury waterfront residence in Sydney, designed by PopovBass as a direct response to its coastal setting, topography, and relationship to the water’s edge. Architectural Approach

Form & Site Response

The apartments are planned as an assemblage of modules that are arranged to give a variety of apartment types while facilitating an economic construction methodology. The simplicity of the vaulted roofs allows this freedom of planning and provides the architectural expression of the building.

This creates a composition that is both anchored and responsive to its coastal context.

The architecture mediates between solid, grounded elements and open, transparent volumes, balancing protection and exposure.

Space, Light & Water Connection

The apartment building is designed to maximise visual connection to the water, natural light penetration, and cross ventilation and environmental performance. Primary living spaces are oriented to engage with the waterfront outlook, reinforcing a strong connection between interior spaces and the surrounding landscape.

Materiality & Expression

Rockpool adopts a restrained and durable material palette suited to the coastal environment, emphasising longevity and resilience, a sense of solidity and permanence, and clean, contemporary detailing.
