Skyring Riverside Apartments – Riverfront Multi-Residential Design, Brisbane

Skyring Riverside Apartments is a multi-residential riverfront concept for Newstead, Brisbane, exploring PopovBass’ approach to high-density urban living, waterfront engagement, and architectural clarity. Designed in response to a prominent Brisbane River site, the project investigates how luxury residential amenity and public interface can be integrated within a cohesive architectural framework.

Riverfront Residential Design in Newstead

Positioned along Skyring Terrace in Newstead, the project responds to a significant riverfront site within one of Brisbane’s most rapidly evolving urban precincts.

The design proposal addressed the transition of former industrial land into a contemporary residential and mixed-use environment, contributing to the broader transformation of the Brisbane river edge.

Architectural Approach

Urban Form & Density

The scheme explored a layered architectural composition, combining podium elements with elevated residential volumes to mediate between urban scale and riverfront openness.

A series of articulated forms create variation across the building mass, balancing density with visual permeability and outlook.

Orientation & Riverfront Living

A key driver of the proposal was maximising the relationship to the Brisbane River through a strong visual connection to the waterfront, excellent access to natural light and ventilation, and carefully positioned private and communal outdoor spaces. This approach aimed to elevate apartment living through a strong connection to landscape and aspect.

Public Realm & Connectivity

The design is a response to the RiverWalk and publicly accessible riverfront interface, reinforcing connections between the development and the wider public domain.

The proposal emphasised the integration of landscape, movement, and shared spaces to contribute to a more active and connected urban edge.

Multi-Residential Design Strategy

Although unrealised, Skyring Riverside Apartments reflects PopovBass’ capability in crafting high-end multi-residential architecture, extending principles typically associated with bespoke homes into larger-scale residential developments.

The design specifically explored generous, flexible apartment layouts, strong indoor–outdoor relationships, framed views and orientation-driven planning, and a consistent material language and architectural discipline.

Design Thinking & Expertise

Skyring Riverside Apartments forms part of PopovBass’ broader body of work in multi-residential and urban housing design, illustrating the practice’s ability to engage with complex urban sites, riverfront and landscape-driven design, and high-density residential outcomes.

Even as an unrealised project, it represents a rigorous exploration of architecture at the intersection of density, lifestyle, and place.
